This is a good song. Is it new or old? I can’t tell with her…

It took me a little while to get into Kate Bush. My finace really likes her, and he’s the one who introduced me to her music. Of course, the songs he chose to have me listen to first were some of her strangest, most … creative, so I wasn’t as receptive as I usually am to new music. If he had chosen something like this song to play first, I’m sure I would have gotten on the Kate Bush bandwagon much earlier.

The best way to think of Kate Bush is that she was doing the Tori Amos ‘creative thing’, in a very English way (combined with dance) years, many years before Tori Amos was even but a twinkle in the Kate atmosphere or Amos-phere (if that makes sense) This song, “Sunset” comes from the 2005 album, Aerial.

    Sunset

    Could be honeycomb
    In a sea of honey
    A sky of honey
    Whose shadow, long and low
Is slipping out of wet clothes?
    And changes into
    The most beautiful
    Iridescent blue

Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
    That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of colour
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust

    Every sleepy light
    Must say goodbye
To the day before it dies
    In a sea of honey
    A sky of honey
Keep us close to your heart
So if the skies stay dark
    We may live on in
    Comets and stars

Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
    That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of colour
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust
Who knows who wrote that song of Summer
    That blackbirds sing at dusk
This is a song of colour
Where sands sing in crimson, red and rust
Then climb into bed and turn to dust

    Chorus :
Oh sing of summer and a sunset
And sing for us, so that we may remember
The day writes the words right across the sky
They go all the way up to the top of the night
