True mark

It’s a personal aim
with a mind as a bow
to find your sights.

Hand crafted
by fleeting opportunity,
successful dilemmas
fill the quiver.

Stretch it back,
watch the flight

out of darkened woods
into horizons
where arrows should fall.

I like the last line the best.

    Where arrows should fall.

  2. I like this one Matt.

The last lines reminded me of the scene from the film ‘Robin & Marian’, where Robin (Sean Connery) fires his last arrow just before he dies; to show where he wants to be buried.

I know this is not your intention, but your poem sure did paint a picture for me.

  3. Matt says:

Paul, actually you are spot on. I was thinking of Robin Hood, and then thought the idea of seeing where the arrow fell could be used as a metaphor for celebrating overcoming problems. Shooting them out of the dark woods.

Paul, You are also correct about his painting a picture with words, since he is also a painter, he does it naturally…which, of course, makes me no end of envious.
